“The ones who walk away from Omelas” is a dystopian story by Ursula Kroeber Le Guin about a town called Omelas where everyone is happy apart from one child. We like this short story because it makes you think about the behavior of people and their values. In this city nobody has problems because everything is organized. The system works thank to a child who is locked alone in a room.
It cannot be helped in any way because otherwise the society would fall apart. We find interesting the fact that people understand that the happiness and the beauty of their city depends on the pain of a single child. If we were in their shoes probably we would leave it alone without changing the system because we think that common good is more important than one life.
