The Thing Around Your Neck: some reviews
The stories I appreciated the most were probably the second and the third one. That's because, in "the American embassy", the protagonist figures out that his son's death can't be seen as a way to gain the visa. She simply decides that she has to live her remaining time in the best way possible.
On the other hand, in "the arrange of marriage", I felt pity for the woman, who cannot keep her culture alive in a foreign country. In fact, she has been forced to adopt a new lifestyle, which is too tough for her.
Reading these stories, I figured out that journeys sometimes are disappointing, despite our initial bright expectations. So, we should not take things for granted, in order to avoid unexpected risks.
